Three Ways to Vote

  1. Mail ballot - Vote from home, college or your vacation home.  You must complete an advance ballot application to use this option.  Both Johnson and Leavenworth County election clerks sent out applications to all registered voters.  Sign-up to vote-by-mail at ksvotes.org.  Verify your application or mail ballot was received and processed.   Mail ballots were distributed starting on Oct. 14.
  2. Early vote in person - Designated locations are available through out the county at specific dates & times.  Here for Johnson County locations.  Leavenworth County:    Courthouse M-F, 8am-5pm, 10/14 through 11/2, Noon; Basehor United Method Church, 10/27, 10 am-7pm; and Tonganoxie VFW, 10/28, 10am-7pm.
  3. In person on Tue., Nov. 3 - Vote at your designed polling location from  7 am* - 7 pm.  *Johnson County locations open at 6 am.  Here to find your polling location.

Ways to Return Your Mail Ballot

  1. Use the United States Post Office - ballot must be postmarked no later than Nov. 3 and received in the election on or before Fri., Nov. 6.  Do not wait to the last minute to mail the ballot if you use this option.
  2. Drop it off in a designated drop box (see example picture on left) - In Leavenworth County, boxes are the Courthouse, Courthouse Annex in Tonganoxie, Lansing City Hall, Basehor Community Library and Leavenworth City Hall.  In Johnson County, the drop box locations can be found at here.
  3. Take it to any in-person polling location within your county on election day.

Verify or Update Your Voter Registration

  • Your voter registration must be updated every time you move, if you change your last name or you want to change your party affiliation.
  • The last day to register for the Nov. 3 election is Oct. 13.
  • There are several sites to check or update your registration including   myvoterinfo.org or ksvotes.org.
